The City Manager's Update is a regular news briefing that is provided to the citizens of Galt. The Update includes important City news, updates on key initiatives and projects, and how the City is delivering services and responding to any concerns from our community.

BI-WEEKLY REPORT - September 8, 2017

POLICE DEPARTMENT
On Thursday, September 7, Chief Sockman and members of the Galt Police Department, including the Galt Honor Guard along with many hundreds of officers from law enforcement agencies throughout California and across the country, attended the funeral of Sacramento County Sheriff Deputy Robert French. Deputy French was killed in the line of duty in Sacramento on Wednesday August 30.

On Saturday September 9, Police Officer Recruit Stephani Stewart will be graduating from the Napa Police Academy. Command Staff, along with members of the department, will be in attendance.

In October, the department will be supporting Breast Cancer Awareness Month. During the month, members of the Galt Police Officers Association and Galt Police Department Civilians Association will be selling “pink patches” to support this worthy cause.

PUBLIC WORKS
Deadman Gulch Maintenance
Public Works staff is clearing vegetation at several locations along Deadman Gulch on the south side of Walnut Avenue, between Marengo Road and Elk Hills Boulevard. This is a cooperative effort with Sacramento Yolo County Mosquito Vector Control to provide access for mosquito control purposes.

Fourth Street Project Update
The contractor will be paving an initial 18 space parking lot in the open space area south of C Street. The “crowns” of the newly planted palm trees will remain tethered for several weeks to allow the root zones to solidify and become established.

HUMAN RESOURCES
Meghan Schmidt was hired to fill the role of Water Systems Operator I effective September 5, 2017. Zachary Frizzell was promoted to Senior Plant Maintenance Mechanic effective August 21, 2017. Miguel Vargas was promoted to Water Systems Operator I effective September 4, 2017.
